An event showcasing our Malay culture would be happening on the...

8th of DECEMBER, THURSDAY from 2PM - 6PM at SIM courtyard!

There will be performances by SIM's very own talented MALAY DANCERS and PESILATS. Not forgetting a special guest appearance by " DEWI SAMUDERA" NTU dikir barat girl's team.

GAME BOOTHS would also be available for everyone to have a chance to experience and learn more about our malay games such as CONGKAK and CAPTEH.

Salam All!!!

Ramadhan is finally here!!! Salam Ramadhan Mubarak to you and your family.

SIMCMS would like to invite you to our annual Iftar Sentuhan Ramadhan. Let us gather together, sharing greatness, sharing food and sharing stories.

This year's theme will be Sentuhan Ramadhan. Menyentuh hati dan kehidupan sesama insan. We want to know and share with our brothers and sisters how has this coming of Ramdhan has inspired to be a better person and a better servant to Allah swt and make the best of His Blessings.Indeed, He is the Most Forgiving and Merciful.

Association of fasting with the month of Ramadhan reminds us that it was during this month that Allah perfected His blessing upon mankind by giving us His last book, the Qur'an. "Ramadhan is the month, the Qur'an says, in which was sent down the Qur'an as a guide to mankind, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting."

Fasting in the month of Ramadhan thus takes on a new spiritual and moral significance. It is the month in which we celebrate the praises of our Lord God for the great gift of the Qur'an. We glorify Him and extol His holiness by fasting during this month.

So take time and join us brothers and sisters. Let us all glorify Him together by uniting as one ummah, strengthening our ukwah and spreading muhabah. Sentuhan Ramadhan only comes once a year my fellow brothers and sisters, let not Ramadhan slip between our fingers. Let us all make the best of His Blessings and make this Ramadhan as if it was our last. Amin.

3 Holy Months:Rejab, Sya'ban & Ramadhan

I hope you are in a good state of health and iman.

This is the first instalment of a mini newsletter series that SIMCMS will be doing for the 3 particular months. The objective of this newsletter is to increase the awareness on the religious events that happens in these months( Israk & Mikraj , Nisfu Sya'ban and Nuzul Quran), as we are focusing on Ramadhan in particular so these two months receive lesser attention than they should have.

Rajab (1/2)

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim ( بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم )

Abu Bakr Warraq (May Allah be pleased with him) said,
‘Rajab is a month of cultivation, Sya'ban is month of irrigating the fields, and the month of Ramadhan is a month of reaping and harvesting.’

Rajab marks the beginning of the spiritual season of every believer ending with the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan with the Eid Al Fitr. These three months are unmatched in their importance. Praise be to the Almighty and thanks to Him for granting us yet another opportunity to cleanse ourselves of our sins and oversights. The month of Rajab, in its superabundant favors and benefits, reverence and sanctity, is next to none. It is linked to Almighty Allah (SWT) as Sya’ban to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) and Ramadhan to his Ummah.

In this holy month, there are few things we Muslims can adopt. Let's reap the best out of this holy month while it's still here to stay, insya Allah. So, preparation for a good ''harvest' in Ramadhan begins in Rajab.

Keep fast on any day in the month of Rejab. So let’s start tomorrow.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) has said: “Rajab is a great month of Allah (SWT), unmatched by any other month in the respect and significance (accorded to it); war with the infidels during this month is prohibited; Verily, Rajab is Allah’s month, Sya’ban my month and Ramadan the month of my Ummah; whosoever fasts a day in the month of Rajab will be granted the great reward of Ridwan (an angel in heaven); the wrath of Allah (SWT) shall be distanced and a door of the Hell shall be closed.”

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated that Abdullah ibn Nameer narrated and ibn Nameer narrated from his father that `Uthmān ibn Hakeem al-Ansaari narrated,"I asked Sa`eed ibn Jubayr about the fast of Rajab, what was his opinion on it. He said, 'Ibn 'Abbas narrated that the Prophet s.a.w used to fast until we said he would never break fast, and he used to break fast until we said he will never fast [again.]' - Muslim

Ask forgiveness and turn repentant to Allah (SWT) as much as you can because mercy drops from the heaven like a gentle rain in the month of Rajab (also known as “As’abb” – pouring out, full of love and kindness). Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and istighfar during the month of Rajab.

Do charity during the month of Rajab.
Abu Hurairah r.a, reported that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu 'alayhi wasallam, said :

"On every person's joints or small bones, there is sadaqah (charity) every day the sun rises. Doing justice between two people is sadaqah; assisting a man to mount his animal, or lifting up his belongings onto it is sadaqah; a good word is sadaqah; every step you take towards prayer is sadaqah; and removing harmful things from pathways is sadaqah."
- Al-Bukhari & Muslim

One significant event occured in the month of Rajab, which is the occurence of Isra' Mi'raj.

The Isra and Mi'raj(الإسراء والمعرا‎) are the two parts of a Night Journey that, prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) took during a single night around the year 621. It has been described as both a physical and spiritual journey. A brief sketch of the story is in surah Al-Isra of the Quran and other details come from the Hadith, supplemental writings about the life of prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h). In the journey, prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) travels on the mythological steed Buraq from Ka'abah Mecca to "the farthest mosque" Al-Aqsa Mosque, where he leads other prophets in prayer. He then ascends to heaven where he speaks to God, who gives Muhammad instructions to take back to the faithful on Earth about the number of times to offer prayers each day.

"Praise be to God Who has enraptured His servant by night from
the Sacred mosque (Mecca) to the Farthest Mosque (Jerusalem)."
Quran 17:1

XPEDISI SISWA 2011 OPEN TO SIM MALAY UNDERGRADUATES!

An invitation for SIM Malay undergraduates participation in the upcoming SURIA’s reality TV programme – Xpedisi Siswa (Undergrad Expedition)- (MOU programme between MediaCorp and Radio Television Brunei )

Concept of XPEDISI SISWA 2011

XPEDISI SISWA (Uni Expedition) is a one-hour reality TV programme telecast in both Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. It is an experiential learning experience where a group of undergraduates from both Singapore and Brunei Darussalam may be required travel to an Asian country for at least 3 days. There, they will experience the local culture and lifestyle of the community and will be put through some challenges which will test their teamwork, general knowledge and other life skills. They will be given various task and challenges. Thus they have an opportunity to learn about themselves and each other. Participants will perform their research under the guidance of their teacher advisors. The programme is tentatively scheduled to go on air in July 2011.

XPEDISI SISWA will be a multi-faceted learning experience for the participants in various areas including culture, arts, history, language and geography. The audience reach will transcend the various age groups. Being in a foreign land and trying to adapt to a new environment is a universal human truth, easily relatable to almost everyone.

The participants will be 4 undergraduates from each country. Each team of 4 members will comprise of both Singapore and Brunei representatives. We have also invited undergraduates from NUS, NTU & SMU and we hope to get 1 representative from each of the 4 universities, including SIM.

Audition

We would like to invite SIM undergraduates to be a part of XPEDISI SISWA. We would like to invite students from SIM to attend the audition at the end of this month at Caldecott Broadcast Centre. Selected student will need to attend the filming and recording in Brunei and probably another Asian country. Accommodation and meals will be provided. The tentative filming will be 17 – 26 June 2011. The recording will be on 24th June 2011.

Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:

a. Excellent command of the Malay language
b. Good oratorical skills
c. Physically fit
d. Outgoing personality

*MediaCorp needs about 10 Malay students whom we can send their names for the audition by 19th April. *

Alhamdullilah, for the year 2010, SIMCMS have held up a number of solo events as well as collaborative events with other institutions. For the past year, we have organized various events such as Zikrul Rasul, Picnic Café, Freshmen Orientation Camp, Iftar Ramadhan, Raya RoadTrip, Hijrah Walk and also our latest event, Islamic Gift Economy Workshop. The Workshop on the Islamic Gift Economy Macro Model (IGEM) aims to create awareness, introduce and develop further interest in the study of an alternative system of economics that is in accord with the conceptual and operational framework of the Worldview of Islam and to equip participants with the basic understanding of the Islamic Gift Economy and to guide them towards its implementation through pilot projects. In short, the workshop is to raise awareness amongst the community about the true Islamic economy.

What is GEW?
Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is a global initiative to inspire young people to embrace innovation, imagination and creativity. This year, NUS Enterprise and ACE are bringing together more than 35 local partner organizations to organize a variety of activities. This year, as part of GEW, KESUMA (Association of Malay Entrepreneurs) and SIMCMS once again collaborated for the 2nd year to provide a platform for individuals to unleash their hidden talents and skills in a form of competition.

So what is the challenge?
To incorporate the elements that has been taught during workshop and produce a ten-minute video. Through e-Global Challenge 2010, participants will be taught the basic management skills, business planning, marketing strategy and not forgetting elements of good acting, directing a film, movie shooting and finally how to market your film via Youtube.

Hijrah Walk

This year, Hijrah Walk is organised by SIMCMS, NPMS (NP Malay Students Society) and AKYM (Al-Khair youth). Hijrah Walk is held to enliven the celebration of the Maal Hijrah (Islamic New Year). The hijrah (migration) experienced by the Prophet Muhammad 1431 years ago, took an estimated 400 kilometers from Mecca to Medina, unifying the Muhajirins (people of Mecca) and Ansarins (people of Medina) and laying the foundation for a single brotherhood of Muslims. Since then, the Hijrah has become a reminder for all Muslims of the need for courage to move forward in the pursuit for success.

SIM GE Open House 2010

It is the SIM Global Education Open House at SIM HQ this Saturday, 25th September 2010! There are variety of programmes lined up including Bouldering Wall Challenge. Plus..... our very own SIMCMS's White Roses with their "Inang Payung" Malay dance at 11.30am. Don't forget to catch them and also be entertained with the SIM Global Education(GE) course briefings if you are interested to be part of the next SIM GE intake.

Arts Fest 2010: Voice of Vibrancy

Happening the whole week of 27th Sept 2010, catch the various Arts and Cultural Group in action! These clubs will be showcasing their various talent pool and also setting up booths for YOU! SIM Arts Fest is going to be held at 2 locations concurrently, The Atrium at Level 2 and the Grand Hall at Level 4.

SIMCM'S tarian girls, "White Roses" will be doing performing on Tuesday, 28th September 2010 at 1.15pm. Do come and give your support during your lunch time at SIM HQ Level 4 Grand Hall.

Preparing for a New Semester

A Brand New Year, A Brand New Goal! Whether you are a first year student or a second year student on even doing your final year, there is always some lesson learned and ways to modify and improve your study style. Fret not, SIMCMS is here with you!

When you are busy with back to back lectures and tutorials and at the same time managing a truckload of projects,

Always remember to make a list of tasks to complete. It makes the amount of work look less daunting when you can identify what needs to be done. Remember to make nice short list!
Now your priority. You can prioritise your work and deal with the most urgent things first. Do what's important and what's urgent. Try to start with the most challenging ones. Because your mind is still fresh!
Be efficient. You can switch to another task in the list when you need a break from a current one. Remember, Never Give Up!
Visible progress. You get a sense of achievement when each task is completed and then struck it off the list.

When you are busy revising, you may come upon a time when you feel all stressed up. You get tired and ponder did you revised too little or did you overworked yourself. Let's me share with you on how to handle stress.

Review your goals and objectives. Are you trying to do too much in a short time?
Check if you are setting too high a standard for yourself. If you have gone through an exam last year, reflect back on the amount of time allocated for study and create a a brand new goals. Do not pressure yourself if your score for previous exam was not what you had expected. Instead, work on your study skills.
Identify the subjects that are stressful and rotate them with those that you like. Pick to study the subject you are weak in or least favorite first. You will be able to give full concentration to that subject when you are active.
Look for a quiet place so that you would not need to fight distractions.
Do not study on bed --> You will tend to sleep. (very true!)
Do not study at dining table --> You will tend to snack away.
If you cannot sleep, then you may study on bed! :p
Study groups work for some people. Find a friend that takes the same paper as you and go through key points and encourage active discussions. You will find that half your doubts are cleared when you share your subject queries with someone.
Finally, exercise regularly! It is a good way of relieving tension.

In the book What Makes a Champion!, Professor Allan Snyder FRS writes:
"Champions are often familiar with adversity. The have had to 'fight' to get where they are... They learn how to convert...'upsets into set-ups'... Struggling in the early learning process possibly acclimatises us to difficulties, and may advantage us in dealing with adversity [later]."

Lailatul Qadr

Night of Lailatul Qadr the "Night of Power" in Ramadhan on which the Qur'an was first revealed. Lailatul Qadr occurs during an odd-numbered night within the last ten days of Ramadhan, but its exact date is uncertain; due to the promises made in the Surah and in various hadith. Us Muslims consider it a particularly good time for prayer, supplication and repentance to Allah.

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ ٱلْقَدْرِ
وَمَآ أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ
لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ
تَنَزَّلُ ٱلْمَلاَئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمْرٍ
سَلاَمٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطْلَعِ ٱلْفَجْرِ

"Inna anzalnahu fee lailatul Qadr, Wa maa adraka maa lailatul Qadr.

Lailatul Qadri khairum min alfi shahr. Tanazzalul malai-katu var-roohu

fee ha bi izni Rabbihim min kulle amr. Salaamun heya hatta matla-il fajr."

"We have indeed revealed this (message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is? The night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the Angels and the Spirit (Jibraeel) by Allah's permission, on every errand: Peace! This until the rise of Morn!" (Surah 97)

This Night is a night of Mercy, a night of Blessing, a night of Peace and a night of Guidance. It is a night of Unification between the finite world of ours and the Infinite Universe of the Unseen. Anyone who is interested in attaining the Mercy of Allah will strive very hard to look for the Night of Power. Anyone who is interested in receiving the blessings of Allah on the Blessed Night will work very hard to enjoy the Night of Power. Anyone who is interested in attaining peace of mind, peace of body and peace in society, he has to look for this Night and to live it.

May Allah give us the strength, the power, the courage and the effort to do our best to obey Allah and to follow His teachings. May Allah guide us and may Allah strengthen our Iman. May Allah help us to live another year with sincerity and devotion. May Allah make us realize that one year of our life is over and that we are one year closer to our graves.

Let us wake up and do our best to please Allah in our daily life. Let us ask Almighty Allah forgiveness. Amin.

Salam friends!

First of all, I would like to say "Ahlan Wa Sahlan Ramadhan!". Hopefully the arrival of the Holy month Ramadhan will bring prosperity and barakah to our life. Insya-Allah. May this Ramadhan be a gainfully rewarding journey for all of us!

SIM Malay Cultural & Muslim Society would like to take this opportunity to invite YOU to our annual Iftar this Friday, 20th August 2010. We are also glad to extend the invitation to all leaders of the other clubs to break fast together, Insya Allah.

We hope that through this event, we can promote cultural integration and also strengthen the bond among students. This will at the same time expose the true meaning of the holy month of Ramadhan at the same time creating awareness of the importance of the month. What better way to do this than to share a meal together? :)

YOU can be part of the Quran recitation just before the breaking of fast! Do remember to bring along your praying materials and Quran for tadarrus.

Fadhilat dan Kelebihan Solat Terawih

Sayidina Ali Abi Talib meriwayatkan sebuah hadith daripada Rasulullah s.a.w iaitu jawapan baginda ketika ditanya oleh para sahabat mengenai fadhilat dan kelebihan solat Terawih pada setiap malam di bulan Ramadhan. Baginda bersabda yang maksudnya,

Malam ke 1
Diampuni dosa-dosa orang yang beriman sebagaimana keadaanya baru dilahirkan.

Malam ke 2
Diampuni dosa orang-orang yang beriman yang mengerjakan solat Terawih, serta dosa-dosa kedua ibu-bapanya.

Malam ke 3
Para malaikat di bawah 'Arasy menyeru kepada manusia yang mengerjakan solat Terawih itu agar meneruskan solatnya pada malam-malam yang lain, semoga Allah akan mengampunkan dosa-dosa mereka.

Malam ke 4
Memporelehi pahala sebagaimana pahala yang diperolehi oleh orang-orang yang membaca kitab-kitab Taurat, Zabur, Injil dan Al-Quran.

Malam ke 5
Dikurniakan pahala seumpama pahala orang-orang yang mengerjakan solat di Masjidil Haram, Masjid Madinah dan Masjidil Aqsa.

Malam ke 6
Dikurniakan pahala seumpama pahala malaikat-malaikat yang bertawaf di Baitul Makmur serta setiap batu dan tanah berdoa agar diampunkan dosa-dosanya.

Malam ke 7
Seolah-olah dapat bertemu dengan Nabi Musa a.s serta menolongnya itu menentang Fir'aun dan Hamman.

Malam ke 8
Dikurniakan pahala sebagaimana pahala yang dikurniakan ke atas Nabi Ibrahim a.s.

Malam ke 9
Dikurniakan pahala serta diangkat ibadahnya seperti Nabi Muhammad s.a.w.

Malam ke 10
Dikurniakan ke atasnya kebaikan hidup di dunia dan akhirat.

Malam ke 11
Meninggal dunia di dalam keadaan seperti ia baru dilahirkan.

Malam ke 12
Dibangkitkan di akhirat di dalam keadaan mukanya bercahaya.

Malam ke 13
Dibangkitkan di akhirat di dalam keadaan aman dari sebarang kejahatan dan keburukan.

Malam ke 14
Malaikat-malaikat akan datang menyaksikan serta Allah S.W.T tidak akan menyesatkannya.

Malam ke 15
Malaikat-malaikat yang memikul 'Arasy dan Kursi akan berselawat dan memohon agar Allah S.W.T mengampunkannya.

Malam ke 16
Allah S.W.T menuliskan baginya dari kalangan mereka yang terlepas dari api neraka dan dimasukkan ke dalam syurga.

Malam ke 17
Allah S.W.T menulis baginya pahala sebanyak pahala para nabi-nabi.

Malam ke 18
Malaikat akan menyeru, "Wahai hamba Allah, sesungguhnya Allah S.W.T telah redha ke atas mu dan ke atas kedua ibubapa mu."

Malam ke 19
Allah S.W.T akan meninggikan darjatnya di dalam syurga Firdaus.

Malam ke 20
Allah S.W.T mengurniakan ke atasnya pahala sekalian orang yang mati shahid dan orang yang soleh.

Malam ke 21
Allah S.W.T akan membina untuknya sebuah mahligai di dalam syurga daripada cahaya.

Malam ke 22
Ia akan dibangkitkan pada hari kiamat dalam keadaan aman dari sebarang huru-hara pada hari tersebut.

Malam ke 23
Allah S.W.T akan membina untuknya sebuah bandar di dalam syurga daripada cahaya.

Malam ke 24
Dikurniakan ke atasnya pahala dua puluh tahun ibadat.

Malam ke 25
Dilepaskan dari seksa kubur.

Malam ke 26
Dikurniakan ke atasnya pahala empat puluh tahun ibadat.

Malam ke 27
Dikurniakan ke atasnya kemudahan melintasi titian sirat seperti kilat.

Malam ke 28
Allah S.W.T menaikkan kedudukannya seribu darjat diakhirat.

Malam ke 29
Dikurniakan ke atasnya pahala seribu haji yang mabrur.

Malam ke 30
Allah S.W.T memberikan penghormatan kepadanya dengan Firman-Nya. "Wahai hambaku, makanlah segala jenis buah-buahan yang engkau ingini untuk dimakan di dalam syurga dan mandilah kamu di dalam sungai yang bernama Salsabil serta minumlah air dari telaga yang dikurniakan kepada Nabi Muhammad s.a.w yang bernama Al-Kauthar."

Selain dari fadhilat-fadhilat yang tersebut di atas, terdapat banyak dan berbagai fadhilat dan keutamaan solat Terawih dan Qiamulail di malam bulan Ramadhan sebagaimana yang disebutkan di dalam hadith-hadith Rasulullah s.a.w.

Let's welcome Ramadhan

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Ramadhan is a great and blessed month. It is a month of obligatory daily fasting in Islam, and is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Daily fasts begin at dawn and end with sunset. Special nightly prayers called, 'Terawih' prayers are held. The entire Quran is recited in these prayers in Mosques all around the world. This month provides an opportunity for Muslims to get closer to God. The objective of the sacred month is not to starve and deprive yourself of what otherwise would have been permissible to you during the day; rather its purpose it to achieve piety and righteousness.

This is a month when a Muslim should try to:

1. See not what displeases Allah

2. Speak no evil

3. Hear no evil

4. Do no evil

5. Look to Allah with fear and hope

O you who believe! Fasting has been ordained upon you as it was ordained upon those before you, that you may attain Taqwa (God-consciousness) [al-Baqarah, 2:183]

The real objective of fasting is to become conscious of our Creator and Maker, to increase our awareness of His Majesty, and to exalt and glorify Him for the guidance He has given us. Furthermore, to appreciate His greatness and to recall the blessings He has bestowed upon us, so we may be grateful and thankful to Him.

The month of Ramadhan is not only the month of fasting, it is also the month of the Qur'an.

Ramdan is the (month) in which the Qur'an was sent down, as a guide to mankind, and Clear Proofs of the guidance and the differentiation (between right and wrong)... [al-Baqarah, 2:185]

This is the time to stop and contemplate, to look inwards and out, it is a time to set our goals. We should ask ourselves what we want to achieve this month...something we will carry into our futures.

FOC'10 Ventureka! was a huge success! Alhamdulillah! The 2D1N camp went well with good weather on our side. Thank you for the great enthusiasm the participants had brought in that made the camp a whole lot more fun! SIMCMS hoped the participants had a great time bonding, making new friends, undertaking the challenges and activities together and learned something out of this camp.

Nisfu Syaaban

Syaaban adalah satu bulan Hijrah yang mempunyai keistimewaan tersendiri. Syaaban dianggap pintu gerbang Ramadhan kerana pada bulan itu umat Islam masih boleh makan dan minum pada waktu siang hari, sebelum mereka menyambut kedatangannya bulan puasa yang penuh berkat.

Nisfu dalam Bahasa Arab bererti ‘setengah’. Nisfu Syaaban bererti setengah bulan Syaaban. Malam Nisfu Syaaban adalah malam lima-belas Syaaban iaitu siangnya empat-belas hari bulan Syaaban. Malam Nisfu Syaaban merupakan malam yang penuh berkat dan rahmat selepas malam Lailatul Qadr.

Hari Nisfu Syaaban adalah hari dimana buku catatan amalan kita selama setahun akan diangkat ke langit dan digantikan dengan buku catatan yang baru. Catatan pertama yang akan dicatat dibuku baru akan bermula sebaik sahaja masuk waktu solat Maghrib.

Pada hari Nisfu Syaaban, Rasullulah S.A.W telah berjanji kepada umatnya bahawa mereka akan dibebaskan daripada azab api nereka dengan berkat dan rahmat Allah S.W.T melainkan enam jenis manusia.
1. Mereka yang meminum arak.
2. Mereka yang melakukan atau sering mendekati zina.
3. Mereka yang berhati batu.
4. Mereka yang suka meyebar atau mengadakan fitnah.
5. Mereka yang suka menggunakan kekerasan fizikal terhadap mereka yang lemah.
6. Mereka yang telah derhaka atau telah berdosa kehadap ibu-bapa mereka.

Pada malam Nisfu Syaaban, biasanya akan diadakan majlis bacaan surah Yasin sebanyak tiga kali selepas solat Maghrib. Di antara satu bacaan surah Yasin ke bacaan seterusnya, boleh diselitkan bacaan doa seperti:
Pada bacaan Yasin pertama, diniatkan memohon panjang umur.
Pada bacaan Yasin kedua, diniatkan memohon dijauhkan bala.
Pada bacaan Yasin ketiga, diniatkan memohon murah rezeki yang halal.

Kita juga digalakkan untuk berdoa kepada Allah S.W.T pada malam Nisfu Syaaban untuk kebaikan kita di dunia dan di akhirat. Ia tidak hanya tertakluk pada tiga doa di atas sahaja, sepertimana yang difirmankan Allah S.W.T di dalam Al-Quran:

“Berdoalah kepada-Ku, nescaya akan Kuperkenankan bagimu. Sesungguhnya orang-orang yang menyombongkan diri dari menyembah-Ku akan masuk neraka Jahannam dalam keadaan hina dina.”
(Surah Al=Mu’min, 40 : 60)

“Dan apabila hamba-hambu Ku bertanya tentang Aku, maka (jawablah), bahawasannya Aku adalah dekat. Aku mengabulkan permohonan orang yang berdoa apabila ia memohon kepada-Ku, maka hendaklah mereka itu memenuhi (segala perintah-Ku) dan hendaklah mereka beriman kepada-Ku, agar mereka selalu berada dalam kebenaran.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2 : 186)

Penuhilah malam Nisfu Syaaban dengan kita mendekatkan diri kepada Allah S.W.T. Janganlah juga kita lupa untuk beribadah pada detik-detik yang lain di bulan Syaaban kerana fadilat Syaabannya. Wallahualam Bissawab.

Salam dearest Brothers and Sisters of SIM!

I am sure some of you have heard or rather seen the current condition of our Musollah. Due to some concerns about the safety issue, there are some minor changes to the Musollah.

Though the fan, lights and other praying materials have been removed, there are still telekungs and prayer mats available at the Musollah.

SIMCMS will try its best to ensure that the state of the Musollah is at its best condition as possible for prayers. We would like to thank those who have raised concern over the situation and shared sentiments with us. SIMCMS will continue our efforts to establish a proper Musollah.

Salam everyone!

Gee… I guess it has been pretty dusty in here! Sorry for the lack of updates.

SIMCMS hope that your journey in completing your examinations was smooth and may you reap what you sow. Insya-Allah.

Now, let’s put our books aside and jom....hooray! hooray!

As the saying goes, “If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain.”

What other better ways to celebrate the end of months of revision by joining us for SIMCMS rainbow-themed PICNIC CAFÉ at Marina Barrage.

Just like how there’s a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, join us in a treasure hunt for gold coins and other fun activities such as kite-flying, Reaction Game and Taboo.

So let us all make this picnic as colourful and be dressed in any one of the rainbow colours. We shall see you then!

Study Tips!

Check out your revision and exam time-table.

Write down your study plan. Be realistic.

Designate a time for fun (Facebook, chats) and studying.

Have confidence.

Perform wudhu and you will able to ragain your focus. You may want to sit with an Al-Quran beside you and read a little bit, just enough to calm down, before continue your study readings.

Concentrate and focus. Avoid distractions.

Do not burn yourself out. Give yourself a break! But remember, not too long!

A human memory retention last only for 9hours! Therefore, revise and do your tutorials within 9 hours. Insya-Allah you will retain that memory.

Location of study. If you are not comfortable studying in your bedroom, go to a public area. To those who live far away from SIM, you can try studying at Cafes, void decks or preferably the library near your home. You can also study in groups with friends who are taking the same subject as you!

Eliminate strategies that don’t work for you. For example, understand instead of remembering!

Here's some doa to share before we begin our revisions:

Insya-Allah….. May Allah swt grant you success in this life and, more importantly, in the hereafter. Amin.

Ditulis, diarah, dianjurkan dan dilakonkan sepenuhnya oleh pelajar-pelajar, pementasan ini bertujuan untuk mendekati masyarakat melalui teater. Dengan menampilkan isu-isu sebenar yang diterapkan dengan pelbagai ciri artistik, kami berharap pementasan ini dapat menghiburkan penonton dan pada masa yang sama, menyampaikan mesej yang tersurat, mahupun yang tersirat.

Pementasan beraliran komedi gelap ini menumpukan kepada empat keluarga Melayu Singapura yang menetap dalam blok HDB yang sama. Mereka seringkali terserempak dengan satu sama lain, khususnya dalam lif blok HDB berkenaan, tetapi mereka tidak begitu cenderung untuk berinteraksi dengan masyarakat mahupun dengan mereka sesama sendiri.

Lif yang sama dijadikan ruang pertemuan antara mereka pada babak pertama. Senyuman sentiasa terukir di bibir mereka, diselangi anggukan kepala setuju. Mereka sekadar berwayang.

Keadaan ini beransur hilang pada saat ruang lif ditinggalkan dan mereka berpisah ke rumah masing-masing di mana pintu rumah ditutup rapat sekaligus menutupi rahsia alam “syurga” mereka.

Apakah rahsia yang diselindungkan oleh keempat-empat keluarga ini?

Get your De-Stress Kit now!

SIMCMS will be giving away de-stress kits to SIM students who are studying for their exams in campus for the month of April. The de-stress kit will include some snacks and other items such as trivia, post-it pad and motivational quotes. You can get your kits on the 1st and on the 8th of Aprill 2010. We will be giving them out during lunch time! So spot us and grab yours now! Alternatively, you can collect your kits at the Musollah area.

NTU Perbayu Retreat 2010

NTU Perbayu organised a retreat, representing the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC), for the leaders of each institution's Malay student organisation. The retreat held on Saturday, 27th March 2010 was an effort to promote the use of Malay language among youths today and developing it further to attain sustainability. The retreat also aimed to form greater bonds among the leaders of Malay Societies (MS), for ease of future interactions and to expand networks. SIMCMS was given the honour to attend the event as we were able to share our ideas, expand our networks and learn more about how MLLPC can support our future cultural events that aids the use of Malay Language.

This session will ensure that leaders of the Malay Societies of various tertiary institutions instill the usage of Malay Language and incorporate elements of Malay Language into their activities. It is only through joint efforts and willingness of each MS that we can ensure the sustenance of the Malay Language. SIMCMS hopes to include elements of Malay Language in our future events. We sincerely seek for your support in helping us achieve this. Insya-Allah with your full and utmost support, we will be able to take SIMCMS to a whole new level.

We had our recent lunch session on 24th March 2010, with Mr Masagos Zulkifli and Mr Zaqy Mohamad. The meet up session was indeed an inspiring and informative session for all of us. The main objective of the session was to raise concerns or issues pertaining to our SIM Muslim community and also the community at large.

The lunch session left the few of us who attended it feeling really inspired to do something more for the community. The MPs gave us a lot to think about and insya-Allah we will all benefit from it. We look forward to meeting up with them again in future.

Let us all reflect how we as an individual can contribute to the Malay community....

1st SIMCMS Members Bonding Outing

Finally! A de-stress day out with MCMS members after those intense preparations for prelims. Thank you Miss Welfare, Hafizhah, for organizing such a fun-packed day where all of us were given the opportunity to bond and also chill for a bit!

We had pizza for lunch at Marina Square's Pizza Hut, followed by a game of bowling. There wasn't much of a competition but we sure did have fun waiting for a STRIKE to happen! Must say that most hit the 'longkang' instead of the pins. haha.... Evening came and we all grabbed some snacks and played Taboo at the Esplanade Roof Terrace. It was hilarious looking at some of us panicking as we try guessing the word the other party is describing.

Do BBQ Chicken, Hawaiian and Curry Chicken Pizzas sound delicious?

YODA visit to SIM

SIMCMS hosted a tour for Youth of Darul Arqam (YODA), last Saturday, 20th March 2010 in SIM HQ. We specially organized a series of interesting and enriching activities for the youths for their half-day trip to SIM. This trip was aimed to create network among YODA and SIMCMS whilst, taking the opportunity to encourage their youths to pursue higher educations beyond their Diploma.

Our ice-breaking games broke the awkwardness in the air, allowing us to get to know one another in a more enriching way. The 1hr long tour around SIM Headquaters was the main highlight of the session. The youths was brought to the Musollah, the Atrium, computer labs and lecture theaters, canteens, student lounge and the library. It was followed by a sharing session by both organizations with Nur 'Ain, President of SIMCMS kick-starting the session. Huda, a member of the YODA committee then shared more about about their organization. We ended the day with a group photo for memories.

All in all, both organizations gained experience and formed stronger ties with one another during their half-day visit to SIM. Insya-Allah we will have further collaborations with them in the near future.

Updates from Zikrul Rasul

Alhamdulilah! Allah Almighty has blessed us all and our very first event turned out successfully! Zikrul Rasul that was held on 10th March 2010 has been beneficial to all attendees as we get insights of the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW.

We were awed by Adik Nasrun who recited the Quran very well, bringing the event to a good start. It was then followed by Shalawat Nabi assisted by Bro Hazlami and accompanied by the playing of rebana by Bro Luqman. Marha-marha for the great talent shown!

We then had dinner as a group while watching the documentary of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The documentary displays Prohpet Muhammad's journey, history and his teachings. Insya-Allah, we can all develop to be a more holistic individual who is able to overcome time constraints and life challenges.

Thank you to those who have assisted us in the preparation of the event. We hope to see more of you in our subsequent events!

SIMCMS presents you our very first event!!

Hasn’t it been weeks since we last met up? Let us take this opportunity to reunite and strengthen our bonds. SIMCMS is inviting all of you down to commemorate Zikrul Rasul together with us.

Have you heard who are in the 4th Executive Committee? If you have not, you have missed the magnificent Annual General Meeting held last Friday, 5th February 2010. ‘The Revelation’ as it is called, along with its Black and White theme, began with an appreciation session for the 3rd EXCO, followed by a short montage specially dedicated to them for their contributions and finally, the introduction of the 4th EXCO.

Ubinified Camp 2010

SIMCMS held its very first outdoor camp in January 2010, targeting the Max-Out youths from both the Jamiyah Business School and Ain Society. Working hand in hand with the representatives from Yayasan Mendaki, Kak Fiza and Kak Jam, the youths were well-equipped with the necessary skills to be independent.

Held in the premises of Pulau Ubin, the camp focused on the fundamentals of island survival where they were taught methods of tent pitching and field cooking!! On top of that, we also inculcate some Islamic values and Malay Culture during the 3 hours Ubinified Race.

The camp was indeed uplifting as bonds were created and experienced shared. To those who have graced the camp with your continuous participation and support, thank you very much!! We hope the outdoor camp has been beneficial to these youths and lets hope we have taken something from this experience.

We hope to make it a yearly camp for these youths! Insya-Allah.

Empowered Muslim Women Run 2010

It has been awhile since we update you with our recent events ya?

Alhamdulilah, SIMCMS have recently organized a Muslimah Run last Sunday, 10th January, at the Macritchie Reservoir.

The very 1st Muslimah Run was dedicated to the ladies to uplift their spirit in engaging in a healthy lifestyle. Much thanks to HerHijab for giving us the opportunity to join hands and collaborate with them. It was definitely a good experience for us all and we are pretty sure the participants had a great time too!

The participants were given a choice when registering to run the 3km long route either competitively or as a team. Like in every race, there will surely be some winners. Congratulations to the top 10 winners of the Individual category and the top 3 teams from the Teams category!!

E-Global Challenge

[EKONIAGA]Pertandingan reka laman Internet Oleh Rosebi Mohd Sah

KESATUAN Usahawan Melayu (Kesuma) dengan kerjasama Persatuan Budaya Melayu Institut Pengurusan Singapura (SIMMCS), Spring Singapore dan Universiti Nasional Singapura (NUS) akan menganjurkan pertandingan membuat laman Internet yang dinamakan E Global Challenge.

Pertandingan dan program itu akan mengajar para peserta bagaimana membuat laman web bagi menggalak perniagaan dalam talian.

Ia akan berlangsung selama tiga hari mulai 20 November ini dan akan dibimbing oleh penceramah pakar dalam bidang Internet, Encik Nur Shaheed Borhan dari syarikat teknologi maklumat (IT) Ed Borhan.
'Selain membangkitkan kesedaran, ia juga bertujuan membuka lebih banyak peluang perniagaan menerusi Internet bagi syarikat-syarikat kecil dan sederhana (SME) serta individu-individu yang kehilangan pekerjaan atau golongan yang berminat dan ingin cuba berniaga menerusi Internet,' kata Encik Ibrahim Ariff, presiden Kesuma.

'Kami anjurkan kursus ini dalam bentuk pertandingan supaya ia dapat menarik minat para peserta untuk belajar di samping menghasilkan laman terbaik mereka. Kami akan menganugerahkan piala kepada tiga pemenang terbaik,' tambahnya.

Menurut Encik Ibrahim, bagi tahun ini, pertandingan itu hanya diperuntukkan kepada 20 peserta. Ia dibuka percuma kepada mereka yang mempunyai asas dalam Internet serta berusia antara 18 tahun dengan 50 tahun.

'Kesemua peserta akan mendapat sijil penyertaan tetapi apa yang penting ialah kami akan pastikan pada akhir hari ketiga program itu, para peserta akan dapat menghasilkan laman mereka sendiri dan dapat memulakan perniagaan untuk menjual produk atau perkhidmatan mereka sendiri.

'Kami tidak mahu peniaga kita hanya menumpukan perniagaan di kawasan Geylang dan mengharapkan pelanggan mereka dari pasaran Geylang sahaja. Mereka harus cepat berubah dan mempunyai pandangan terbuka lagi ke hadapan dan meluaskan lagi perniagaan mereka dengan memulakan perniagaan menerusi Internet.

'Ini kerana dengan melakukan demikian, mereka akan mempunyai para pelanggan global yang jauh lebih besar daripada pasaran lama mereka,' tambah Encik Ibrahim.

Para pengadil bagi pertandingan dalam kursus secara percuma itu terdiri daripada Encik Nur Shaheed sendiri dan beberapa pelajar SIM.

Menurutnya, jika terdapat permintaan yang baik bagi program tersebut, Kesuma akan menjadikan acara itu sebagai acara tahunan.

Minggu Usahawan Sejagat atau Global Entrepreneurs Week (GEW) berlangsung dari 16 hingga 22 November di sini, yang dianjur bersama Spring Singapore dan NUS.

Ini merupakan julung-julung kalinya Kesuma menjadi antara beberapa rakan kumpulan yang menyokong secara rasmi acara tahunan yang dianjurkan bersama Spring Singapore dan NUS itu.

"O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, so that you may develop taqwa."

[Al-Baqarah, 2:183]

Ramadan, a month of obligatory daily fasting in Islam, is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar. Daily fasts begin at dawn and end with sunset. Special nightly prayers called, Taraweeh prayers are held. The entire Quran is recited in these prayers in Mosques all around the world. This month provides an opportunity for Muslims to get closer to God. This is a month when a Muslim should try to:

1. See not what displeases Allah

2. Speak no evil

3. Hear no evil

4. Do no evil

5. Look to Allah with fear and hope

Alhamdulillah, in this month of blessings, SIMCMS would like to take this opportunity to invite YOU to our annual Iftar this 11th Sept, Friday.

We hope that through this event, we can promote cultural integration and also strengthen the bond among students as well as our fellow friends from other tertiary institutions. What better way to do this than to share a meal together? :)

Being the very few people who have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education, it becomes our responsibility to contribute to society. But often questions like, the kinds of contribution we can make linger in our minds. With that notion of contributing to the society, people need to be aware that there are numerous ways and avenues to contribute to society. Speakers and audience from various backgrounds will share their views on how to prepare one for such opportunities and be an important asset to the society.

By bridging the gap and forming ukhuwwah between future asatizahs and professionals , our contributions to society will become more impactful. Let this session be the start to the exchanging and sharing of experiences and challenges between the two and be inspired by one another. 3. Speakers’ profile

Ust Hannan Bin Mohamed is currently the Head of Religious Education Unit in MUIS and member of the Religious Rehabilitation Group (RRG) in Singapore.
Mr Aaron Maniam is the president of Mendaki Club and is now a Deputy Director at the Strategic Policy Office of the Public Service Division.

Salaam all!

Been awhile since this page been updated. Alhamdulillah SIMCMS has been attending few events and the latest one was the Uth C.A.N and "Malam Anugerah 2009" by PBMUKS on the 18th July 2008.

2 events in a day was indeed very tiring but we had loads of fun! Meeting new and old friends are simply enlightening. :))

Mun'ish Night Cycling 2009

Mun'ish Night Cycling 2009 is an initiative that brought along a collaboration of institutions; SIM MCMS, Ngee Ann Polytechnic Muslim Students' Society (NPMSS) and Al-Mukminin Muslim Ambassadors (MYA). Our mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle among the youths in the community. Mun'ish is an arabic term for 'refreshing'. As such, we would like to provide these youths an opportunity to feel refreshed; in terms of knowledge and experience, body and mind.

We are aiming to achieve a paradigm shift in the mindset of the youths participating in this event, mainly focusing on how they view exercise as a healthy habit, and having the right perspectives on leading a healthy lifestyle eg: food nutrition knowledge, sexuality among youths etc. Hence, we are hoping to reach out to all youths age 14 years and above out there to join us in this challenging and memorable journey. A journey that will take you through the urban jungles of Singapore from Al-Mukminin Mosque all the way to East Coast Park!

Street Donation Drive : Gaza Relief

Saff Perdaus along with Mercy Relief and other student/ youth organizations are raising funds from the streets in the hope of providing support for the recovery and rebuilding effort in Gaza

This effort aims to pull together youth and and global citizens alike to garner our effort, energy and resources in harnessing support for the victims of the conflict.

6) Muslimah Night 08

Description: An annual night where sisters of womanhood come together and PARTY!
A joint organization with NUSMS, NTUMS and SIMCMS.

7) Freshmen Orientation Camp

Description: SIM MCMS held its debut Freshmen Orientation Camp(FOC) in August 2008 to welcome freshies to SIM. “Camp Chillout”, as it was called, was a success with freshies from different universities in SIM coming together to experience a fun-filled 2-days-1-night camp.
The programs included team-building games and the ‘Amazing Race’ which was the highlight of the camp. Freshies had to utilise their orientation skills to navigate their way around Singapore and find checkpoints along the way to reach their final destination.
Blood and sweat was shed, but it was worthwhile especially after a motivating talk by a guest speaker from MUIS, Dr Al Bakri. The freshies did not only made new friends from the camp, but made history to be the first people to experience a camp organised by MCMS.

8) Arts Festival 08

Description: Malay culture + Hip hop culture?
That paradoxical phrase lingered in our minds when we were tasked to incorporate the ‘hiphop’ theme for our booth and goodie bags during the Arts Festival 2008 held at SIM HQ. The fusion of the two diverse cultures proved to be a laborious task for the committee, but with the assistance from the EXCOs and advisors, we clinched the $200 award for the best-designed goodie bag.
This goes to show that amidst differences in culture, we can appreciate and assimilate the Malay and Hip hop culture as long as the fundamental idea of Islam is not denigrated upon.

9) Iftar 2008

Description: What comes to the mind when we talk about fasting?
Ramadhan? Tarawikh? Iftar?
In the blessed month of Ramadhan 1429H, SIM MCMS held its second iftar in SIM HQ for the students. The invitation was also extended to part-time students and also our brothers and sisters from the tertiary institutions.
Much of the food was sponsored by SIM members and several mosques, and a sumptuous spread was laid out for the guests to savour upon. However, what made us full was not the spicy bee hoon goreng or the well-baked lasagne, but the melodious recitation of the Holy Quran by our Invited guest from Egypt, Sheikh Md Jafaar, and the warmth and hospitality of the guests who graced the occasion.
We pray to Allah to give us the opportunity to have more of such gatherings in the future.

SOUK @ SULTAN

Souk@Sultan is an event jointly organised by SIMCMS (SIM Malay Culture & Muslim Society) and PBMUKS (Persatuan Bahasa Melayu Universiti Kebangsaan Singapura) with the purpose of raising funds to aid the less fortunate families. Souk is an Arabic term for Bazaar in Malay. Hence, the title for this event.

It is also a follow up event form the 2 Days 1 Night Entrepreneurship Camp( 24th -25th January 2009) where these youth get to learn and internalise entrepreneurial skills through workshops conducted by Abang Abu- a well known entrepreneur in the Malay community. Hence,this bazaar serves as an avenue where they get to practise and execute their business plan.

We would like to take this opportunity to reach out to YOU and your family to come down and support this event.

First and foremost, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the SIMCMS family!
An awesome year of exciting events and activities awaits us. So heres looking forward to a magnificent term ahead, Insya Allah.

Kick starting the line of events for the current year was our SIMCMS Members Day. This is a special day where we openly recognise our member's contributions in past events and also provide everyone the perfect opportunity to get to know each other better. We hope to make the Members Day an occassional affair where everyone can meet, interact, learn and chill!

We had our 1st Members Day recently on the 28th of October 2008. Alhamdulillah, it was much fun and a great success! A Hari Raya Gathering was also organised in conjunction to the Members Day. The food was superb and everyone enjoyed themselves during whistling "bunga api" finale. Certificates of Participation and free movie passes were also handed out to participants of past events. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to those who had attended.

For the coming 2nd Members Day, we had invited Mr Sadali Rasban, founder of HTHT Advisory Services Pte Ltd to conduct a very short but insightful seminar for our Brown Bag Session on Personal Wealth Management for Muslims. This is a free seminar open to all, not just members of SIMCMS.

Mr Sadali will cover interesting and highly relevant topics aimed at helping us in planning our wealth, our future and our hereafter in accordance with the Shariah.

About the speaker:
Mr Sadali Rasban is an author of various books on wealth management, one of which is currently being used by the students in the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM). He has been a financial practitioner for fifteen years and has also been prominently featured in Berita Harian and The Sunday Times.

Those attending will receive, during the seminar, a book (worth $40) written by Mr Sadali himself. As this is a free seminar open to all, do invite others whom you think might be interested. Members are encouraged to take advantage of such opportunities which are definitely beneficial in the long run, Insya Allah.

So bring your friends along! Hang out with us during this Brown Bag Session and have fun! We look forward to meeting everyone there.

Description: An afternoon of fun and games to welcome Freshmen/New Members to MCMS! Our very first Event!

3) Student Week

Description: Organised by the Student Care Services of SIM Global Education.
It was a week where we welcome new students to SIM and an opportunity for SIM Students to showcase their talents such as singing, dancing etc.
All clubs set up booths to publicise and recruit new members to their respective clubs.

MCMS - We gave out Malay delicacies and goodies; sweets + chocolates wrapped in a ketupat shape bag.

4) Iftar Ramadhan

Description: A time where MCMS members break our fast together – Buffet Style! =D

Before break fast, we had a screening of a short documentary titled American Ramadhan.

After Iftar, we did our Terawih Prayers together before cleaning up!

5) Perjumpaan Hari Raya (PHR)

Description: Eidulfitri Celebration --> A time to forgive and forget.
A concert where culture and heritage meets belief and faith.
Performances by SRJC Dikir Barat, Sembawang Primary Tarian Group and Acoustic Band playing Hari Raya songs.
We held a peagent for the best dress Female and Male!
With an array of mouth watering food dishes what an afternoon to spend with friends!!! =D
